KT Tunstall @ Bardot 4/12/16

KT Tunstall played one hell of a night, and a Monday night no less.

In just a six-song barrage, Tunstall blasted the roof off the tightly packed Bardot, and surprised us all in more ways that just her metallic slacks (“Do you guys like my space pants?”). Beginning her set by saying “You know this one…” she rode into a solo performance of “Black Horse & A Cherry Tree,” what we would expect; midway through the already impressively live-looped rocker however, she produced a kazoo, played the seven first notes of “Seven Nation Army,” and proceeded to mash both tunes together for a ferocious folk rocker.

Even after that, Tunstall still had more to show us. Along with announcing she’s “finally” living in LA, she also has recorded new material: “Evil Eye” in my opinion stood out as the best song of the evening, and that’s not even the one most of the crowd came for. That one’s “about Patti Smith,” said Tunstall, before bouncing into her willful, TV-series staple, “Suddenly I See.” At that moment I myself was suddenly steeping in visions of “Grey’s Anatomy” but the nostalgia was just a nice afterthought; what lies ahead for Tunstall is what fascinates me most.
