Just Like Heaven Fest: Preview
Just Like Heaven looks heavenly to the teenage me, who downloaded all these artists onto their iPod video.
For those who enjoy Dance Yourself Clean, the song or the dance party, this festival scratches the same itch. Just Like Heaven takes place this May at Queen Mary Park in Long Beach, CA. The emerging genres of the early 2010s from Euro synthpop to bedroom chillwave receive due representation here – even a hint of scene kid sensibility shows with the inclusion of Shiny Toy Guns. They play alongside your favorite alt and synth-rockers from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Breakbot to Miami Horror.
As much as it celebrates acts of today, Just Like Heaven also appeals to another emotion: nostalgia. Like OutKast at Governor’s Ball or the Replacements at Coachella, seeing the Rapture billed at a festival hits a sweet spot. With beloved contemporaries like Phoenix and Miike Snow and fan favorites such as Neon Indian, this lineup appeals to a very distinct yet relatively universal taste, one that people my age wholeheartedly share.
Just Like Heaven originally planned for just a May 4th date, but due to high demand, a second date was added for May 3rd. GA tickets start at $99 plus fees and go in tiers. VIP options are also available.
It may just be the perfect start to your summer. What sounds more heavenly than throwbacks at the beach?
