The Best of 2019 up to this point
The best music of 2019 so far – that’s it, that’s the lede.
No flowy language or buried lede here: these are simply the songs I like the best this year and/or want to highlight. Rather than bore you with blurbs on all of them, I highlighted a special few. This playlist will also be updated throughout the year, so give it a follow if you’re looking for some new-new.
3. Kim Petras “Got My Number”
Another victory for Ms. Woo-Ah and Jesse St. John, who’s having a mammoth year so far. Ridiculously simple and effortlessly catchy, this song works in the club, the bedroom, or even on a stroll through your neighborhood.
2. Yung Baby Tate feat. Kari Faux “Hot Girl”
A slapper powered by sheer confidence, “Hot Girl” fits perfectly into the theme of Hot Girl Summer. More than just a hit of a number, this track features two exciting faces in rap who deserve your attention in 2019.
1. Little Boots & Cyril Hahn “Infrared”
Little Boots continues her growth into a mature dancefloor artist, assisted by Cyril Hahn’s understated and coolly confident beat. “Under your gaze I’m magnified” she murmurs, managing to convey detachment and sentimentality in a series of scientifically themed metaphors. This song deserves more.
Notables worth checking out:
Kaytranada & VanJess “Dysfunctional”
Aria Wood “Two Minute Noodles”
slenderbodies “Better Like That”
Vendredi Sur Mer “Encore” (peep her whole album)
Nilüfer Yanya “Heat Rises”
