SOPHIE @ 1720 9/15/2018
Friday night marked my sixth time seeing SOPHIE – a record I will likely break before 2020 ever turns the corner.
With help from fellow hyper pop acts (Hannah Diamond) and high-tech laser lights (Pieterjan Ruysch), SOPHIE put on yet another show only she could assemble.

As per usual with SOPHIE, she played little of her officially released music. Product remains a distant memory, and even Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides only peeked through with an “Immaterial” finale. She appeared more concerned with showing us her new material, which ranged in tone from industrial and aggressive to melodic, off-center pop.
She still managed to throw in fan favorite, “Burn Rubber”, a slapper for all brats who drive Bugattis. No matter how much she thrives on the unpredictable, SOPHIE still knows when to play her aces on the dancefloor.
I wish she hadn’t left the stage so unceremoniously and maybe went out with more of bang like so. Then again, she’s never done anything to convention, and that’s why we keep showing up at her concerts.
