The Lodge Room slowly feels more and more like my favorite venue in LA.

For shows like Panda Bear’s visually stimulating and contained performances, this former Masonic Temple offers a breathable and intimate experience. Its ornate designs along the walls and ceiling only enhance the otherworldliness of the venue, perfect for Noah Lennox’s performance.

First of all, Lennox sounds fantastic. Armed with his Studiomaster and microphone, he crooned to his latest effort, Buoys, which I honestly am glad I experienced for the first time live. Lennox thrives within rich, intricate productions, so the acoustics of a venue allowed me to experience them at full value.

Buoys blends a bit of folky vibes with wobbly electronic flourishes – like Bon Iver meets drum and bass. Lennox basically stands still the whole time, and his mismash of styles matched the accompanying visuals, which elevate the show to another level.

The color scheme gave off cotton candy-on-acid visuals, soft blues and pinks warped into all manner of shapes and images. Red lips morphed into succulent strawberries and flower stems transformed into wigs made of neon. My wig was certainly spun.

Even from the back of the room, I remained captivated by the sound and screens. Lennox has constructed a brilliantly psychedelic and dance-worthy show using a few screens and his aural strength alone. Expect to see and hear more fantastic things about Panda Bear in 2019.
