I’ve spoken before how I enjoy the Roxy’s small space. A little less room often allow for better interaction between artist and audience. It was here, not at the zoo, where I got to see a jungle cat up close.
Upon walking into the Regent Theater, one can feel they are in for a good show. The general admission area slopes downward towards the main stage, granting excellent viewpoints for the whole crowd. Just large enough with minimally decorated walls, the Regent places full attention on the stage to ensure it is the main attraction.
Everyone loves a two-in-one situation: dual shampoo/conditioners, laptop/tablet hybrids, combination Taco Bell/Pizza Huts, the two-in-one presents an array of complimentary option for what normally constitutes a standard fare.
Live music revolves around how an artist and audience connect. Failure to establish that connection (looking at you, Diplo) moots the point of going to a concert. I spent Friday night at the historic Troubadour of West Hollywood, a tiny venue with a titanic reputation. Knowing the background of the Troubadour lends it a sense of importance, as if the show you’re seeing is one for the ages. Arthur Ashin, aka Autre Ne Veut, ensured his performance lived up to the hype.
