LA Gives Back 3 @ Catch One 12/19/18
Throughout the labyrinth hallways of Catch One nightclub, the festive vibes of LA Gives Back 3 heralded in the holiday season.
One stage featured the rowdy sounds of Ham on Everything, supported by the likes of JPEGMAFIA and Xavier Wulf, while just down the hall cuts from Paramore and AFI from EmoNite brought one back to the days of pop punk.
The upstairs rooms filled by Late Night Laggers and Brownies and Lemonade bumped plenty of jams worth dancing too, but to be honest it got so hot and so crowded I couldn’t stay up there for long. Thankfully the rest of the rooms never grew quite as crowded.
The best room of the night hands down was Ninja Tune’s Underground area, which boasted a fantastic DJ lineup. Dâm-Funk brought out a number of funky cuts, which I’m sorry to say many of the clubgoers ignored. How can you miss out on Dâm-Funk
Shortly thereafter came Tokimonsta and her hip-hop tunes, followed by the brilliant Bonobo. Then, surprise surprise, Mr Mad Decent Diplo appeared to DJ alongside Bonobo, bringing the night to its climax.
All in all, LA Gives Back 3 presented a spectacularly fun evening, one that also went towards a good cause as an added bonus. Though DJs replaced drummer boys and disco lights shone in place of the Star of Bethlehem, it never felt anything short of festive, both in a holiday and musical sense.
Though the event ended about in the wee hours of the morning, the auction is still going on with all proceeds going to My Friend’s Place and Downtown Women’s Shelter here in LA. There’s still time for you to clock some merch before it ends on January 1st, so get to bidding!
