You Me At Six @ The Teragram 3/11/19
Monday night often proves difficult to play given its placement in the week, but You Me At Six figured out how to make it work.
The more pop-minded DREAMERS opened for the band, illuminated by a neon sign sporting their moniker. Tracks such as the catchy “Wolves” built up the excitement of the evening – a Monday night always needs a bit of a pick-me-up, and DREAMERS delivered.
Live, You Me At Six gave off Papa Roach mixed with Simple Plan, harder rock with a pop lining along their edges. “We’re gonna make sure you have a good fuckin’ night!” shouted lead singer Josh Franceschi. Based on the crowd’s enthusiasm and pleasantly contained mosh pit, the band succeeded.
Not exactly ones to mince words or concepts, they provided a refreshingly honest answers about their performance. When they asked the venue to turn off all the lights, Franceschi quipped “You know, English boys are sexier in the dark because you can’t see their bad physiques and small…” You can fill in the rest.
Even up to the finale, they kept it real. “We’ll say ‘This is our last song,’” said Franceschi. “The crowd will know that’s bullshit. . .” Someone had to say it. Between this and their shoutout to the Arctic Monkeys and the poprock royalty scattered throughout the audience (members of All Time Low and Mayday Parade), You Me At Six gave me as much nostalgic pleasure as they did a performance.
All in all, not too bad a start to the week.
